Divisional Training

Hello Dear Rogers Arena Division 1307 Member

This email is to make sure you are aware that as of August 2023, we have monthly divisional training available for our division.

This is in part, because it is a requirement of all divisions in our area (and beyond) to provide training to all of our members.

All members of our division have been added to the course, and an email was sent August 8th 2023 informing you about it.

For your convenience, you can click on this link to get straight into the course.

This training is only for members of our division.

Many of you have already taken part in our trainings, and we thank you for staying on top of it.

Please be advised there will be some optional times available in the future where we are planning to meet at different branches to practice skills in person.

For now we are focusing on online training delivery, and for those who have not yet partaken in this training, please be advised of the following.

At Rogers Arena, because we do so many events, and because we are not attached to a specific branch, our training is provided and delivered online. Most other divisions meet in person weekly/bi-weekly.

As per our area training officer, this training is mandatory, but it will also benefit all of our members.

For members that are Medical First Responders, Licensed EMRs and every other higher level of care: this training should be relatively quick for you and should serve as a reminder/refresher of some of the basic skills that we often don’t think about as we provide care. It also serves to remind us of what our lesser-trained-but-equally-capable counterparts can do, so as to better utilize them in patient care.

For all of the levels of training up to and including MFRs: this training will help remind you of some of the skills you may not use too often, as well as help prepare you for what to expect as you further your first aid training and become an advanced medical first responder yourself.

For all members of the division: it is a great way to keep in touch with your training team, and help identify learning gaps so that we can better prepare you for patient care, help you become more confident, and achieve more success with your assessments and treatments. There is also the added bonus that you will get volunteer hours for completing the monthly training modules.

Exceptionally, until the end of September 2023, we have left the both the August and the September trainings open and available for completion should you wish to claim the hours.

As of October 1st 2023, the August 2023 and the September 2023 modules will be closed as the Module for October 2023 opens. This means you will no longer be able to complete older quizzes, thus not being able to claim hours. (The slides will remain visible, but will only be for your benefit, and no longer for hours.

This is your last chance to earn the 2 hours of volunteering time for each of those 2 months.

To give you some additional information as to why your training team decided to use the same topic (Emergency Scene Management) for both August & September, it is because we wanted to use August as a “soft launch” to identify any problems with the training platform. The training platform ended up working well, and we were ready to get on track with the scheduled learning plan for Emergency Scene Management for September 2023. Emergency Scene Management is also a crucial part of every call we respond to, and therefore, we wanted to spend extra time on it to ensure all of our members are confident in the skill.

We hope you enjoy the hard work done by our training team to get these training modules up in the works, with the help of our area training counterparts.

Sincerely,

Philippe Lurol, MStJ,
