Message from PHQ: Stay Safe on Public Transit: Practice Awareness and Caution

Hello Dearest Rogers Arena Members,

Our PHQ has requested that you are all provided with the following message for your safety. The message is just below my signature.

I also want to remind you to please not reply to the email  "rao.members@sjabcy.ca” as all replies would be sent to the entire divisions.

Thank you for everything you do and continue to do for SJA and our division.

You make up the best team of volunteers I have ever had the privilege to serve with.

Sincerely,

Hello Everyone,

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"I am sure you are all aware of the tragic incident that occurred on the Surrey SkyTrain recently, where a young boy was stabbed and killed. We are deeply saddened by this heartbreaking news and our thoughts and prayers go to the boy’s family.

In light of this incident, I want to remind you all to always take precautions when travelling on public transit. Especially during peak hours when the trains are busier, we need to be extra vigilant to ensure our safety.

Please read these below given points and forward it to your team members. If you feel, please mention this in your training nights as well, as I feel a lot of our new members regularly take the sky train.

  • Be aware of your surroundings. If you see anything suspicious or out of the ordinary, alert a SkyTrain attendant or police officer immediately.

  • Avoid standing close to the doors, especially if you are carrying a valuable item.

  • Keep your valuables out of sight and be careful when using your phone or other electronics.

  • If possible, travel in groups, especially late at night.

  • Whenever in need, use your skills and be prepared to respond to emergencies.

Stay safe,

Naman
