Important Updates on Leadership, Training and Uniforms

Updated: Nov 9

Hello Dear Rogers Arena Members

I have a few training updates for you.

This email has gone out to the entire division, please do not reply as it will go to the whole division.

Please don't hesitate to email rogers.arena@sjabcy.ca for answers to your questions.

As you may know, our online monthly training is mandatory and many of you have already started working towards your monthly trainings.

There is still a significant number of you have not. Please, log into google classrooms with your personal google account, and access the course.

Our training team has worked very hard on these course modules, and you are required to complete them. At the very least, they are an  excellent review and keeps you active even when you cannot volunteer as often.

Interesting fact, We have accidentally left the old course quizzes open (this was our mistake, and you can use it to your advantage).

This is your last chance to catch up on some of the past training modules, and earn the 2 hours associated with each of those months.

Please keep in mind that each module builds on the last, so you may as well get 2 hours of volunteer time for doing the readings and the small quizzes. It is in the same course named “Rogers Arena Monthly Training”. We will continue to add to the same course monthly.

August 2023 was our test launch, it covers half of the Emergency scene management.

September 2023 had the complete Module on Emergency scene management. The August quiz was re-offered, and the September quiz was also available.

The system will let you know if you have already completed the quiz, as it is the same ones, so please check that they are all done.

The October 2023 module is Airway and O2 Management. It is very important subject, especially as we enter yet another flu and COVID season.

The November 2023 training (scheduled to be loaded November 1st) will build on that and add more knowledge.

Our training team will close the previous quizzes at that time, and your chance to complete them will be gone. The readings materials will still be available, but no more volunteer hours will be offered for those months.

The Monthly Training course will also have another benefit.

Should we need the whole division to sign some new documents for PHQ, or provide a major update (which is coming with the new VMS), all updates will be placed in that course.

There may also soon be a monthly newsletter that will be distributed via this course, to avoid getting lost in emails.

So if you have not accessed it, you will be missing out. Because this course is mandatory, it will also serve to help our administration team figure out who is active within the division, and who is no longer active. Those not active may see their volunteer status archived, and no longer be a St John Volunteer with the Rogers Arena Division 1307.

Our orientation course, which is still accessible to the public has been updated, particularly the section involving our leadership team. We recommend having a quick look as lots of work was put into this, and it will give you a great chance to see who is in charge of what.

You will notice that Renmel is no longer our DTO. He has stepped down from the role to focus on his studies, and we encourage him and thank him for his hard work. There have also been some changes with the administration team, and the entire leadership team, with many new roles filled.

We are now 85 members strong in our division, some more active than others. Please keep an eye on our staffing levels, we are numerous because we do so many events. Even with our high number of volunteers, we are seeing many events with a bare minimum numbers of volunteers. Please keep checking so that we don't put extra stress on the volunteers who do come out, and the officers who try to ensure that staffing levels are acceptable.

We have also received a large amount of last minute cancellations. Please remember that when one signs upon for an event, they are counted upon. There are only a couple of reasons to cancel short notice, these are personal illness or injury, and emergency work commitment. If you have signed up for a shift, please expect to go to that shift. Although we have been and are very understanding, we have begun to track these late cancellations as well.

Lastly, I apologize for all the delays with the Uniforms. There was a period of time where I was asked to wait before submitting as there were other priorities for purchase. By the time you receive this email, I will have just submitted the largest uniform order ever submitted to our PHQ. Please be patient, all members will have uniform eventually, but due to the sheer volume of the order, we may need to be patient. Some of the order parts may need to be submitted next year due to budget constraints. We have just been informed that the parts of the order I made in March 2023, are finally arriving at PHQ, so we will be able to start outfitting some members soon. Please continue to be patient as we continue to strive to get everyone kitted out.

Thank you all for all you do!

Sincerely,

Philippe Lurol, MStJ,
